The Best Dog-Friendly Parks and Trails in Sarasota

Looking for the perfect spot to enjoy some sunshine and fresh air with your pup? Sarasota is full of beautiful, dog-friendly parks and trails that give you and your best friend a chance to explore, exercise, and bond. At Partners Veterinary Hospital Fruitville, we love seeing our patients living their best lives—so we put together a list of local favorites for tail-wagging adventures.
1. 17th Street Paw Park
This off-leash dog park is a Sarasota staple. It features separate areas for large and small dogs, shaded benches for you, and plenty of space for zoomies. Water stations and waste bags are provided, so it’s easy to stay and play for a while.
📍 4570 17th St, Sarasota, FL 34235
2. Arlington Park
Leashed dogs are welcome on the paved walking paths at Arlington Park. It’s a peaceful, shady spot with open green spaces, perfect for a leisurely walk or a relaxing afternoon.
📍 2650 Waldemere St, Sarasota, FL 34239
3. Bayfront Park
Enjoy scenic views of Sarasota Bay while strolling along the waterfront with your pup. Leashed dogs are welcome, and the park’s paved paths and grassy areas make it a great stop for a calm walk and a few photos with your furry companion.
📍 5 Bayfront Dr, Sarasota, FL 34236
4. Nathan Benderson Park
If your dog loves long walks or jogs, this is the place to go. The 3.4-mile trail around the lake is wide, flat, and beautiful. Just be sure to bring water and go early or later in the day to avoid the heat.
📍 5851 Nathan Benderson Cir, Sarasota, FL 34235
5. Brohard Paw Park (Dog Beach in Venice)
Okay, it’s a little outside of Sarasota—but it’s worth the short drive! Brohard is the only beach in Sarasota County where dogs are allowed to run off-leash and splash in the surf. There’s even a doggie shower station when you’re done.
📍 1600 Harbor Dr S, Venice, FL 34285
Stay Safe While You Explore
Before you head out:
- Bring fresh water for your dog
- Avoid peak heat hours (midday sun can be dangerous)
- Keep your dog up-to-date on flea, tick, and heartworm prevention
- Always check the pavement temperature—if it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for paws!
